Finding a job you enjoy, no matter what the career tests say ~

Quensday, you do not give an education level, so I am going to presume the minimum of a high school diploma. If you do not have this, may I strongly suggest getting a GED? This allows you a freedom in the job market that will not be there without one or the other.

  1. Then, you need to look at what you as a person enjoy doing. Do you like being outdoors? Look for work with the DNR. There are often jobs posted at the parks at this time of year. It may turn out to be temporary, but, if you are good at it, the DNR people are known to keep employees that work well with the system.
  2. Do you like to read? Look for work in the Public Library. You will initially be stacking books and unpacking crates, and if this is not something you can do, you may have difficulty. But, if you can make it through this, you can work your way into working one of the desks. It can be fun and rewarding to work around books, and around readers if it something you enjoy to begin with.
  3. Are you good in the kitchen? It is not an easy way to get into the job market, but there is always work in restaurants as a bus person. Pick a nice one to apply to, and stick with it, looking always at the job postings, as this is the way many excellent and well paid chefs got their start.
  4. Are you good with children? Provided you have a clean record and are willing to start at the beginning, there are always day care facilities that are looking for people. This is the way to know if you would eventually like to teach. As many times, in day care, even the young people will run "classes" for the children, these will be exercises, coloring, working with paper and safety scissors, as all such activities with small children need supervision.
  5. Do you find it rewarding working with the mentally or physically challenged? There are job opportunities throughout the system in these fields. You, again, would start at the beginning, but the opportunities for advancement are great, and the work has it's own special rewards!

  6. Do you find yourself feeling good about comforting those who are ill? Almost every facility that employs nursing assistants also trains them.

Every type of work I have mentioned is starting at the beginning and working your way up. I have not suggested anything here that wil be handed to you. However, one of the things that I have not mentioned is that many of the places that you would be working at if you did these kinds of work, offer further education in the field you are working in. You could find yourself working for a hospital that pays your way through nurse's training. A day care that pays for you to get your degree in teaching administration. These are top paying jobs I am talking about now, and you started at the bottom so to speak and earned your stripes on the way up.

I am not sure about the things you like to do, if you would give me a list of those things you like to do, I am sure I could find things that fit into the paid workplace that you would be qualified to do.

Thanks Suzi, for answering my query. I have graduated from high school, and I am currently pursuing my bachelor's degree somewhere majoring in English, which is basically undecided! This is a great hub for it filters the what you like to do=prospective job channels, but I can't pinpoint what I like to do. Thanks for answering my request! :)
